Alexandra Laderman is a California-based artist who has been drawing since childhood. A self-taught artist for 12 years, she later pursued formal studies in both community college and art school, totaling four years. For Alex, art has always been a powerful means of expression, allowing her to convey emotions and experiences when words fall short.
Most of my work is rooted in academic traditions, with a primary focus on the human figure and the occasional landscape. What sets my work apart is the incorporation of a style reminiscent of comic book art. This blend of classical academic techniques and more illustrative design choices is, in my view, the most prominent aspect of my artistic identity.
I primarily work with oil paint on canvas, as well as graphite and charcoal on paper, and I also experiment with digital media. I tend to alternate between techniques based on what effect I want for my pieces.
My goal as an artist is to create works that transport viewers into the stories I aim to tell. I want people to clearly understand the emotions I’m expressing and to feel inspired—just as I have been inspired by others. Above all, I want to rekindle that fleeting sense of wonder about a world that feels vast and alive, yet unknown. It's a feeling many people tend to lose or grow jaded toward as they get older. I believe the most powerful works of art are those that reignite that sense of curiosity and awe, and I strive to offer that experience to those who engage with my work.
